Five tasks before you keep a paid job-software subscription

A phone-first evaluation you can complete with fictional sample records.

Updated October 2026 · Research-based guidance · No hands-on software testing claimed

Run this five-task checklist with fictional customer data before keeping a new software subscription. A free trial may require a credit card and renew automatically; check the terms and cancel by the deadline if you do not intend to pay.

  1. Quote: Create one sample estimate. Save the exact plan and device used.
  2. Schedule: Change the visit date, then find the approved scope, address and notes.
  3. Change: Enter a fictional customer-approved adjustment without losing the original scope.
  4. Invoice: Convert the completed job into an invoice without sending it to a real person. Count retyped fields.
  5. Export: Export sample customer, job and invoice records. Check the file opens and contains the fields you need.

Record the outcome

Mark each task pass, limitation, unavailable or not checked. Include setup minutes, renewals, add-on charges, cancellation requirements and exporting restrictions. Never describe an untested product as tested.
