Research-based buyer comparison

QuoteIQ vs Housecall Pro for a solo contractor: which entry plan fits?

The cheaper subscription is not automatically the better fit. A one-person handyman, pressure-washing, or home-service business should compare the actual steps from customer request to paid invoice.

Short answer: QuoteIQ Essentials lists $29.99/month for one user. Housecall Pro Basic lists $79/month when billed monthly, or $59/month on annual billing. The $49.01/month difference at regular monthly rates is $588.12 over 12 payments. That is a subscription-cost comparison, not proof that the plans have identical features.

Where the actual workflow differs

Estimates, invoices and scheduling: Both vendors advertise these basic workflows. Test how many taps it takes to create a real estimate, convert it into an invoice, record payment and find the job later.

Customer self-booking: Housecall Pro advertises online booking on Basic. QuoteIQ lists internal scheduling on Essentials, but its customer-facing InstaSchedule self-booking begins on a higher plan. If customers must book themselves from your website, this distinction could outweigh the subscription price.

Job costing and price books: Housecall Pro explicitly lists a price book and job costing on Basic. QuoteIQ's main pricing page places job costing in Pro. For a solo operator tracking material and labor costs by job, verify whether the feature you need is actually in the quoted tier.

QuickBooks: Housecall Pro's pricing page lists QuickBooks Online sync under Essentials, not Basic. QuoteIQ's main pricing page lists QuickBooks under Pro, not Essentials. Neither entry plan should be assumed to provide automatic QuickBooks synchronization.

AI and usage allowances: QuoteIQ Essentials includes 500 monthly IQ Credits for supported AI actions; credits and add-on costs require separate review. Housecall Pro markets AI tools, but do not assume every AI feature or usage level is included in Basic. Compare your real use case, not the number of advertised AI features.

Which plan should a one-person business trial first?

Start with QuoteIQ Essentials if your priority is a lower fixed subscription cost and you primarily need estimates, scheduling and invoicing, with no immediate need for customer self-booking or entry-tier job costing. Its 14-day trial requires a card, so note the cancellation and renewal rules before beginning.

Start with Housecall Pro Basic if customer self-booking, an entry-tier price book, or job-cost reporting is central to your process. Its regular monthly subscription is higher, so measure whether those features save time or reduce missed jobs.

Stay with free templates if you have low job volume, do not lose track of customer requests, and can already send accurate invoices promptly. Paying for unused software is not an upgrade.

Five-job test before choosing

  1. Create the same fictional customer and estimate in each trial.
  2. Schedule the job and test any customer-facing booking link you actually need.
  3. Record material costs, labor time and travel; confirm whether the plan supports your preferred job-cost view.
  4. Convert the estimate to an invoice and simulate a payment without processing a real customer card.
  5. Export the data you would need if you later cancel, and check the exact renewal price.

Use the full software trial checklist, then enter the realistic minutes saved into our free admin-time calculator. At a hypothetical $40 value per productive hour, the $49.01 monthly price difference equals about 73.5 minutes of productive time per month. Time saved is not automatically cash earned.

Official sources and editorial limitations

Vendor sources checked October 28, 2026: QuoteIQ pricing and feature tiers, QuoteIQ plan and trial help, and Housecall Pro pricing and included features. Vendor information can change. QuoteIQ's main pricing page and some of its help-center pages disagree about higher-tier amounts; we deliberately avoid relying on those disputed prices here. We did not use either product, open a trial, complete checkout, or verify merchant support quality.
